Our Aranware Tea Cosy makes a great holiday gift for all the tea lovers in your life!
As legend goes, in the early 1900's, the Aran sweater was developed by Irish immigrants living off the coast of Boston, MA. Upon returning to the west of Ireland the knitting was refined to what we know it as today.
So too, in the late 1990's Aranware Pottery came to be, when Ann Mullan-Karakatsanis, a native of Derry City, Northern Ireland moved to Boston and set up Kara Irish Pottery.
Ann worked on the design and development of ovenware, dinnerware & accessories with the traditional Irish motifs and contracted Ulster Ceramics in Derry, where she had previously worked as Marketing Manager, and Carrigaline Pottery in County Cork to create the products.
Resisting offers to have the Collection manufactured more cheaply in other countries, the mission has been to create an export market for products primarily from Derry in the North of Ireland that will provide an ongoing source of jobs, create confidence within the community and bring American tourists to the City of Derry, the port from which many of the early Irish-American sailed.
The 12-piece line of Aranware pottery includes everything from teacup & mugs to casserole dishes and pitchers. Each piece designed with Aran Isle stitch patterns offers the same sturdy practicality as its predecessor, whilst combining the beauty and style of Classic Creamware.
Just as neutrals are the foundation of every wardrobe, the dishes offer simple styling on their own, plus lots of opportunity for dressing up the table by mixing with colourful pieces. The heirloom Aranware Collection sets an elegant stage for traditional Irish hospitality.
